Welcome

The name Bravdica, and also the name Bradizza, derived from the northern Italy and Croatian areas of the globe. Specifically near Venice and Ravenna, and the Island of Cres. The roots have been traced back to the 17th century, but I am sure that someone out there can carry things farther with their personal research.

Similarly, we have traces of our ancestry located on the Island of Cres, in Croatia, with George Pietro Bradizza immigrating to the United States in the Early 1900’s. His name was modified to the most common name of the region, Bravdica. He had 2 sons and a daughter that were born in the city of Pueblo, Colorado. Only the daughter is still living in 2019.

The sons, along with a half brother, were all placed in an orphanage at an early age. They ended up in Denver, Colorado. Amazingly, they stayed in touch with their sister throughout time, so their children were all able to gather some level of a family. Two of the boys kept the new name, Bravdica, and one, the half brother kept the name Cardenas. Ignatius and George Pietro Jr, and Raymond Cardenas (Son of Mary White) were their names. The sister married and became Josephine Regalado.

The four bore 13 children total, and numerous grand children, and now great grand children. Though, only Josephine is survived by all, she still resides in Pueblo, Colorado.

Now that you’ve read the immediate history of the name, and the last 100 years of the descendants, It’s my hope you can jump over to the Bloggers area, and add your version of the name Bravdica and Bradizza, and the relationship you and your family have with it.

From this, I have actually carried our family history back to 1602, with much luck. On my mother’s side (Joan Sylvia Smith), it is definite that her father’s ancestors migrated from Canada in the early 1800’s with the name Belonger. Harry Smith married a grand daughter of this family named Bridgette Belonger, and their son, Theodore was the father of Joan.
